That’s my purpose, to go beyond a niche and spread out a little bit. It keeps things interesting, has kept me painting for the last 43 years. That´s why I am in this business, challenge, if it is too easy its probably not going to be fun, that’s one of my advices to artists: Hey¡ try this things, you are going to have a lot of experiences, the more crazy experiences you have, the more inspired you are, the more it pushes you to be a great artist. You have to want it, you do it because you are going to do it no matter what, I believe that’s probably the only way you are going to do it. The way I did it, what really got me through is really painting from the heart, painting what you really want to paint. I want to feel good about what I an doing, I want to forget about who is going to buy it. I just want to do something that I am interested in seeing. Those are the paintings that are going to be the best Since beginning my career in high school, in 1967, my goal was to have my art inspire and entertain others just as many artists (music, film and fine arts) have done for me.
Jim began painting illustrations for books, movies and record album covers, most notably the Grammy Award winning cover for Bob Seger’s “Against the Wind” in 1981.
Released in February of 1980, Bob Seger’s album “Against The Wind” was a huge commercial success, reaching #1 on the Billboard 200, selling 3.7 million copies and going 5X platinum.
“I was commissioned to paint the cover for the album and it presented a new challenge for me – painting horses. Although my specialty was people, I took on the challenge and the result was a unique painting and I won the Grammy in 1980 for it.
Now, over 40 years later, it remains one of my most popular paintings.”
Disney had been a big inspiration for me and my art since a child while growing up near Disneyland in California. I am honored to be allowed by Disney to paint all their characters, and especially being art directed by their animators who have been working for Walt for 25 years. All of my Disney paintings are published and distributed by Collectors Editions and approved by Disney Fine Art.
In 2009 Jim began painting celebrities for the Fame-Wall project in New York and Hollywood (www.fame-wall.com), painting portraits and unveiling them with the likes of The Beach Boys, John Stamos, Kelsey Grammar, Kristen Chenowith, Brooke Shields and others.
Jim´s art is currently sold through some of the top galleries in the world including Parkwest Galleries as a top seller on every major cruise ship art program.
